Scott Bryan Wilson was born on January 29, 1953, in Spring Grove, Indiana, United States. He is the son of Harry and Winifred (Bryan) Wilson.
Scott Wilson was educated at Ball State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1976. By high school and college, he developed a particular fondness for cemeteries.
Before starting his writing, Scott Wilson had held various positions. From 1974 till 1978 he was an employee at Richmond State Hospital and worked in the same position at the United States Postal Service from 1978 till 1986. In 1989 he became an affiliate at the American Nursing Care.
In southern California, in 1987, the idea of accumulating information on the burial places of notables occurred to him. As a result, firstly his monograph, Baseball Hall of Earners: Burial Places by State, was published in 1999. In 2001 he published his massive reference work titled Resting Places: The Burial Sites of Over 7.000 Famous Persons. Despite the book's macabre nature, the narrative is lively and serves as a good, brief biographical resource. It covers more than 7,000 persons from political, military, and cultural history, including the notorious and scandalous. In this book, Scott concentrates on persons in the arts, who are situated on the West and East coasts of the United States and in England and France.
In 2016 Wilson revised the first edition of the book and provided information on more than 14,000 persons in the new one. Wilson was also a contributor of articles on film history to periodicals, including Classic Images and Fredonia Gazette.
Scott Wilson is a specialist known for his interest in genealogy and cemeteries. He became particularly famous after the publication of his book, Resting Places, which is considered to be an essential guide containing information on burial places, dates of birth and death of more than 14,000 famous personalities.

2001Quotations: "There is hardly a single day in which I, or one of my regular contacts, does not come up with a new name or new information. It's massive, it is never-ending, but in the long run, I think such a compilation has not only historical but some sociological significance."
Wilson is a member of Phi Alpha Theta.
Scott Wilson married Melissa Maurer on August 19, 1978. The marriage produced two children, Ryan and Emily.
