1888 graduate Law Faculty, Breslau University.
From 1883 military service with Austrian cavalry regiment 1890 entered Vasilian Monastery, Dobromil’. 1892 took monastic vows with name of Andrey.
Studied theology, philosophy and ancient and modern languages. Was fluent in five Slavic languages. 1896-1898 fathersuperior, Street Onuphrius Monastery, L’vov, and publ,monthly journal Missioner.
1898-1901 Bishop of Stanislav. 1901 elevated to Metropolitan of Galicia, Archbishop of L’vov and Bishop of Kamenets-Podol’skiy. 1913 financed Ukraine National Museum in L’vov.
1914 arrested during occupation of Galicia by Russian army and banished to Suzdal’ Monastery and then to Kursk. 1917 returned to L’vov and supported proclamation of Ukraine independence. 1921 went abroad after occupation of Ukraine by Poles, seeking support for Ukraine independence in United States of America, Canada and Brazil.
1923 returned to Galicia, was arrested by Polish authorities but soon released. 1941-1943 during Nazi occupation defended faith and opposed murder of Jews. His home was frequently searched by Gestapo.
Built churches, founded religious soc and provided financial support for students and novices. Engaged in considerable theological research.
