Tafuji Seifu was born in 1884 in Okayama, Japan.
While still in school Tafuji was afflicted with an eye disease so he left school to become a musician.
At Tokyo he became a pupil of Eisei Kushida, an authority of Yamadaryu school, and when his master died he inherited the institute and adopted the name of Seifu. LaterTafuji studied waka poetry and classics from Sotei Matsumoto.
Together with Shosen Nakanoshima and Eisho Kashino, Tafuji wrote Yamadaryu Soka Hachiyoshu. He served as standing director of Japan Sankyoku Association and director of Yamadaryu Sokyoku Association.
