From 1976 to 1981 Selami studied at Ankara Kurtuluş İlkokulu. In this year he studied at Ankara Anadolu Lisesi. He graduated from it in 1988. In 1988 he was a student of the University of Ankara in Ankara, Turkey. He studied at the Department of School of Medicine.
From 1996 to 2001 Selami worked as a resident in internal medicine at the University of Ankara in Ankara, Turkey. In this years he was a researcher in oncology laboratory at the Hopital Hotel Dieu, INSERM, Universite Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris, France. He worked there for a year. In 2002 he became an internal medicine physician, fellow in hematology at the University of Ankara in Ankara, Turkey. He worked there until 2005. In a year he worked as a hematologist at Gaziantep State Hospital in Gaziantep, Turkey. He held this position until 2013. Since 2013 he works as a hematologist and associate professor at the University of Ankara in Ankara, Turkey.
