Sempo Kuriyama studied Confucianism under Shoun Kuwana.
Career
Sempo Kuriyama came into prominence at the early age of 17 with his book titled "Hoken Taiki" (History of the Middle Age of Japan). He became so famous that he was invited to Mito by Mitsukuni Tokugawa, Lord of Mito Clan, to become president of Shokokan (historical research institute of Mito Clan) and with Tampaku Azumi, Kanran Miyake and others began compiling histories.
