Semyon was born on May 2, 1873.
In 1987 Semyon studied at Saint Petersburg Military Med Academy in Saint Petersburg, Russian Federation.
Semyon specialized at the chair of infectious diseases in Saint Petersburg Military Med Academy in Saint Petersburg, Russian Federation. From 1899 to 1899 he organized and accompanied following expeditions to combat plague, cholera and other epidemics in Astrakhan’ Province, from 1902 to the Don, in 1904 to Persia, and in 1911 to China.
Semyon did research on the biology of the plague microbe. From 1920 he was a professor of this chair and chair of microbiology at Saint Petersburg Med Institute in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Also, in this year Semyon helped to organize anti-epidemic measures in the Red Army.
From 1924 he was a professor of bacteriology at Kharkov Med Institute in Kharkov, Ukraine. Semyon worked as a director at Mechnikov Sanitary Bacteriological Institute. He did major research on the etiology and prevention of measles and scarlet fever. Proved that the scarlet fever streptococcus is activated by a filtrable virus. Criticized for his attempts to apply Mendel’s laws of heredity to bacterial reproduction processes.
