He was born on 26 October 1950 to a reputed family in Pitigala Galle District.His mother, Isanona Epa Senaviratne was a granddaughter of Don Philip De Silva Epa Appuhamy(founder of the Epa Almanac) and his father, Adman Liyana Arachchi was a village headman in Pitigala in Galle District.
He received his primary education in Gamini College, Benthara and later entered Ananda College in Elpitiya. He nurtured in an astrological & religious environment since his birth and he carried forward the inherited traditions and astrology. Deshabandhu Senarath Liyana Arachchi was a Senior Railway Station Master in Sri Lanka.
He worked in different areas of the country as a railway station master for nearly 40 years.
