Serafima Mikhailovna Madatova was born on January 2, 1894 in Khersons'ka Oblast', Ukraine in a family of nobles.
Serafima Mikhailovna studied at the women's gymnasium of the city of Ostrogozhsk, Voronezh Province, Russian Empire (now Voronezh region, Russia) from January 1905 to June 1908. She continued her education in the gymnasiums of the city of Odessa and the city of Moscow.
During the years 1912-1916 Serafima Mikhailovna was engaged in the verbal department of the Moscow Higher Women's Courses named after V.I. Ger'e.
In 1916, Serafima Mikhailovna was one of the founders of the "Girl's Field" poetess circle (gathered at the apartment of Prof. I. Rozanov). During 1920-1921 she lived in Odessa, Crimea. Later she emigrated to Yugoslavia, where Serafima Mikhailovna was engaged in teaching, wrote prose.
The collection "Poems ..." by Madatova was published in Ostrogozhsk, Voronezh province (1907), the review by V.V. Litvinov was published in the newspaper "Voronezh Telegraph" (1907, December 30). In Odessa, she published a collection of poems "Diary sheets" (1920). In collaboration with her husband she created a Serbian-Croatian-Russian dictionary.
