He graduated from Chernigov Higher Military Aviation School of Pilots (1977), Gagarin Air Force Academy (1989), Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (2000).
Since 1977, Sergey Bainetov served in the 35th Fighter Aviation Regiment of the Air Force of the Group of Soviet Forces in Germany (Zerbst) as a pilot and the flight commander and flew MiG-23Ms. He was deputy squadron commander of the 22nd Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment in the Far Eastern Military District since 1981. In 1985-1986, he served as squadron commander of the 821st Fighter Aviation Regiment and deputy commander of the 145th Fighter Aviation Regiment in the 14th Air Army in Ivano-Frankivsk since 1989. Since 1990, Bainetov was deputy commander of the 73rd Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment (the Western Group of Forces, Köthen), and since 1991, of the 33rd Fighter Aviation Regiment (the Western Group of Forces, Wittstock). Since 1994, he was commander of the 159th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment (Petrozavodsk), flew Su-27s. Since 1996, Bainetov was Deputy commander of the 16th Guards Fighter Aviation Division (Millerovo) (A. I. Pokryshkin’s division) and in 1997-1998, its commander. Since July 2000, he was deputy commander of the 8th Corps of the Air Force and Anti-aircraft Warfare (Komsomolsk-on-Amur), since 2001 – deputy commander of the 11th Army of the Air Force and Anti-aircraft Warfare (Khabarovsk). In March 2005, he was appointed Chief of the Aviation Flights Safety Service of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
Sergey is married and has two children.
