From 1898 worked in archives, Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs. After 1917 October Revol worked for Moscow Oblast Archives, then for Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Centr Archives Board. Helped to plan and implement archives reform.
1922-1929 professor, Department of Archives Management, Moscow State University. From 1939 senior researcher, Institute of History, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Sciences. Worked on history of Moscow and Muscovy of the 16-18th Centuries and history of the 18thCentury Russian Army.
Published many archive documents. Author of many works published in various journals, collections and joint works.
