1901 graduate Darmstadt (Germany) Higher Technical College.
Career
1901-1916 worked for dispatch office. State Mint, Saint St. Petersburg. 1917-1930 professor, Higher Institute of Photography (later Photography and Cinematography Technicum).
From 1930 with Research Institute of Geodesy, Aerial Photography and Cartography. 1909 perfected optical system of polarization densitometer. Contributed to the development of trichromatic subtractive-additive films.
1909 patented his invention of trichromatic cinematography (German patent Nr 229007, 22 December 1909) and was the first to make a trichromatic film. 22 December 1912 registered a new method of producing color films (Russian license Nr 2446). 1920 pioneered use of double-sided color film and a resolving prism eliminating parallaxes.
His research on sensitometry played an important role in the development of photogrphy. Also invented galvanoplastic and electrotech methods and processes.
