His father was that person who put him on skis, brought him in the biathlon and taught him to shoot. He wasn't five years old when his father began to bring to training.
Sergey Novikov started biathlon in 1989, under the guidance of his father, Valentin Novikov, who was the coach in a sports school.
At junior level, Sergey Novikov won:
- 2 gold, silver and 2 bronze European Championships
- 3 gold, silver and bronze Universiade.
In 2008, the Novikov won the silver medal in the mixed relay at the World Championship in Ostersund, and at the Olympics in Vancouver has suddenly become the second in the individual race.
The best results obtained in the World Cup are the 26th place in the 2009-2010 season.
Setgey Novikov is an Honored Master of Sports of the Republic of Belarus.
