1893 graduate Medical Faculty, Moscow University.
After graduate worked at L.L.Lcvshin’s Surgical Clinic. 1897 served in Greco-Turkish War. 1898 defended doctor’s thesis on osteoplasty in amputation of the extremities.
1898— 1909 head, Surgical Department, Smolensk Province Hospital. 1909-1901 1 head, Surgical Department, Smolensk City Hospital. From 1912 professor, Chair of Topographical Anatomy and Operative Surgery, then Chair of Hospital Surgery Clinic, Saratov University.
After 1917 October Revol founded a traumatological Institute for treatment of Red Army soldiers in Saratov. From 1926 head, Chair of Faculty Surgery Clinic, 2nd Moscow University (later 2nd Moscow Medical Institute). From 1927 also head, Surgical Section, Blood Transfusion Institute and chief surgeon, Kremlin Hospital.
Pioneered modern gastrointestinal surgery in Russia. Did valuable research on intestinal blockage, gastroenterostomy, resection of the stomach, postoperative diets, et cetera Designed several instruments for stomach operations.
Was first Russian surgeon to use “blind” sutures for gunshot wounds of the cranium and abdominal cavity with organ damage. Developed subsequently improved method of disinfecting the surgeon’s hands which is now generally used in the Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics. Devised a number of original urological operations.
Made major contribution to methods of treating suppurative trauma of the lungs. 1938 performed one of first successful operations for removal of lobe of the lung. Helped to organize Soviet blood transfusion service.
Trained numerous outstanding surgeons, including Anugrah Narayan Bakulev, Virgin Islands Kazanskiy, I. GJCochergin, V.S.Levit and B.E.Linberg. Wrote 143 works.
