1924 graduate Acting and Directing Department, Institute of Screen Art, Leningrad.
Career
Took part in 1917 October Revol in Petrograd. Until 1922 in Red Army. From 1924 ed, then cutter, Moscow Department, Northwestern Film Studio.
After merger of Northwestern Film Studio with State Film Studio and Soviet Film Studio he began to work with G.N. Vasil’yev in a team called the “Vasil’yev Brothers”. Worked with and greatly influenced by Eisenstein. 1944 -46 artistic director, 1955-1957 director, Lenin Film Studio.
Chairman, Organization(s) Bureau, Leningrad Department, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Cinematographic Workers’ Union.
