Sessei Okazaki was appointed a professor of the Tokyo Fine Arts School (1890) and one of the founders of the Japan Art Institute. He directed the casting of the bronze statue of Masashige Kusunoki, a Loyalist warrior, in front of the Imperial Palace. He was responsible for more than 30 life-size or larger bronze statues of prominent men.
