(Brave baby elephant prepares for his first solitary journ...)
Brave baby elephant prepares for his first solitary journey. He wisely equips himself with warm clothes, a lantern and a sword and eats even more than a baby elephant normally would in order to withstand the perils of the coming event. Then, unflinchingly, he takes leave of his parents, and for the first time in his baby elephant life, proceeds up the stairs and to bed without the help of an escort. A situation which has importance in the young child's life is portrayed here with great charm and playfulness and Leonard Weisgard's colored illustrations of the cozy elephant family lend a visual note of humor and grace to the incident.
