Seth Babson was born in Maine, United States, but spent his early life in Massachusetts, United States.
During his later years, Mr. Babson maintained a home in Alameda, continuing the practice in San Francisco and the Bay area, where many of the early buildings were built from his plans.
In 1850 Seth started on an overland trip to the west coast, and after his arrival in Sacramento, continued to live there for twenty years.
Seth was one of the pioneers of the architectural profession in northern California, for many years a member and past president of the San Francisco Chapter.
