Sever Burada was born as Sever Burădescu on January 14, 1896, in a big city Craiova, Dolj County, Romania. He was a son of Petre and Ștefana Burădescu.
Sever had a brother named Traian and a sister Cornelia.
Sever Burada was taught at the Carol I National College of Craiova by the painter Ioan Stăncescu Giovanni and the sculptor Ion Dimitriu-Bârlad.
Then, in 1915, Burada pursued his education at the School of Fine Arts in Bucharest where he had taken lessons from George Demetrescu Mirea and Jean Alexandru Steriadi for four years.
After graduation, young painter won the scholarship of the Nicolae Grigorescu contest which allowed him to develop his painting skills in Paris.
During this five-year stint in the capital of France, Burada attended the courses at the École Nationale de Beaux-Arts (National School of Fine Arts) held by François Flamang, Émile Bernard, Fernand Cormon and Lucien Simon. Sever Burada was a brilliant student and often received different awards.
Other courses Burada joined were these of the Romanian School of Fontenay-aux-Roses.
Sever Burada began his artistic career in 1914 when he took part at his first exhibition in his native Craiova.
The presentation was followed by the Salon of French Artists in 1922 in which the artist participated three following years.
In 1926, Burada came back to Craiova where he held his debut personal show. Two years later, Burada exhibited his artworks at the Romanian Athenaeum Hall in Bucharest which also hosted Burada’s paintings in 1931 and 1935. The visitors of the Dalles Hall in Bucharest admired the creations of Burada in 1937.
Moreover, Sever Burada was an active participant of other famous salons of the time, like Autumn Salons, for example.
Sever Burada was an accomplished impressionist whose artworks are nowadays held in many private and public collections. Among the well-known collectors of the painter’s art are the Romanian author, art critic, journalist Pavel Șușară and a Romanian journalist Tudor Octavian. The latter published in 2010 the monograph on Burada titled Life and work of painter Sever Burada.
The art lovers can admire Sever Burada’s masterpieces at various Romanian art galleries and museums, like the Nicolae Iorga Memorial Museum in Valenii de Munte, the Art Museum of Constanta, the Cotroceni National Museum, the Bucharest Municipal Museum, both in the capital of Romania, and the Bellu Manor House Museum in Urlați.
