He joined Samajwadi Party in February, 2014 and will contest 2014 Loksabha election from Sambhal constituency and lost election. Shafiqur Barq was born in Sambhal (then a part of Moradabad district) in the state of Uttar Pradesh. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Agra University.

By profession, Barq is a social worker& businessperson.

Barq has been in active politics in the 1970s and has held various posts during the years. This is his fourth term as Member of Parliament

All from the same constituency. During 14th Lok Sabha, before completing his term Barq resigned from his post in April 2009.
