Shamit Khemka is the regional director of Entrepreneurs" Organization, South Asia, Chief Executive Officer & founder of SynapseIndia, an Information Technology service provider, Company-founder of ScheduleDoc, an online health care appointment booking facility, and Company-founder of Foodcloud an online food ordering portal.
Education
Shamit Khemka attended Scindia School in Gwalior (1985 – 1992) and completed his Bachelor of Commerce from Saint Xavier College (1990-1992) with specialization in International financial management. He also attended the Earth Observation/EMP (Entrepreneurial Masters Program with Massachusetts Institute of Technology) in 2009 and Earth Observation/EBGP (Entrepreneurial Business Growth Program with ISB) in 2012.
Shamit has also done additional courses in Management Policy, Organizational Behaviour, International Economics, Financial Management, Operations Management, International Management, Marketing Management, Negotiations, Financial and Managerial Accounting. He holds comprehensive business expertise in areas of executive management, business ownership, project management, consulting, and e-business.
Career
Along with these he has also been associated with quite a few Non-governmental organizations such as International Chandramauli Charitable Trust and Yogamission Charity for a long time. Khemka was arrested in 1999, for operating a website that indulged in hate speech against the Bengali community. In 1999, Khemka was arrested in Calcutta for operating the website www.bokachoda.com (the term "bokachoda" being a vulgar Bengali expletive).
Khemka"s website made offensive jokes about the Bengali community and the then Chief Minister of West Bengal Jyoti Basu.
The Telegraph newspaper described Khemka"s website as a "hate site" but argued that his arrest was an over-reaction. Writing in the New York Times, the former editor of the Statesman, Sunanda Datta-Ray, expressed a similar view.
However, the Financial Express described Khemka as "obsessed with his hatred" against the Bengali community. Shamit is the Regional Director, Entrepreneurs" Organization, South Asia.
He is also the President and Chief Executive Officer (since 2000) of SynapseIndia.
At another Information Technology & Web design company, Cross Section Interactive, he is Director.
