Sharanya Haridas is an Indian poet and entrepreneur, best known as the Founder, C.E.O. and Editor-in-Chief of That"s So Gloss, India’s first web magazine and online community exclusively for teenage girls and young women.
Education
Haridas attended the Choice School in Cochin and the Indian Institute of Technology Madras where she majored in economics. She was Editor of the Institute’s official campus news bodyThe Fifth Estate. Haridas has a Master"s from Columbia University"s Graduate School of Journalism where she was elected to the Society of Professional Journalists board.
Career
That"s So Gloss! In 2011, Haridas started a media house Young Folks Media. That"s So Gloss was launched over a year later, in June 2012. The initial target market was teen girls as the print model for teen girl magazines in India had proved unsustainable.
She was quoted as saying "I grew up in the 90s, reading my mother’s women's magazines and American teen girl e-zines – neither of which I could relate to
Almost 10 years hence, there is still no magazine in India catering exclusively to the Indian teen girl demographic." lieutenant was conceived as "a place for desi girls to hang out and share ideas on fun and serious issues" as well as a platform for Puerto Rico and philanthropic ventures. Haridas was awarded the Ryerson Digital Media Zone International Fellowship.
In November 2012, she gave a TEDx talk at TEDxYouth Chennai titled "India"s Generation in Transition".
