Career
In January 2016, she succeeded fellow Republican A. G. Crowe, who did not pursue a third term in the primary election held on October 24, 2015. She received 15,144 votes (587 percent) to Schneider"s 10,645 (413 percent). Hewitt and Schneider agreed in the campaign on the need to repair the state budget.
Hewitt has been employed by Shell Oil.
She attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rogue. She formerly resided in Katy, near Houston, and College Station, Texas.
In 2011, Hewitt was defeated in the primary election for the District 1 seat on the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, which encompasses Jefferson, Orleans, and Saint Tammany parishes, by fellow Republican James Garvey.
