Sheila Cato was born in 1936 in Tring, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom.
Sheila Cato attended Wellington Teachers College, which is now called Faculty of Education of Victoria University of Wellington.
Sheila Cato began her career as a schoolteacher with a particular interest in mathematics. Soon she started her career as a writer. Cato had lived in New Zealand for nearly forty years and in 1996 she returned to the United Kindom. She settled in Derbyshire, where she continued to write.
As Sheila Cato has always been interested in maths, in 1999 she published several picture book series to make math more child-friendly by combining various genres with a fun approach. The series ‘Question of Math’ for five-to-eight-year-olds has recently been published in the United States. The books cover the four basic operations and counting and measuring. Now she is working on a new series of books for an older age group.
