He is part of "Elements of Fire", who cover Earth, Wind & Fire songs. Reynolds is a "contributing editor" for Astronomy magazine. He has a show on Twilight Talk Radio.
Born in Ohio, Reynolds began playing the guitar when he was eight years old, and by the age of 12 was considered a prodigy.
Towards the start of his professional career, he toured with singer Millie Jackson and later played for Capitol Records recording r&b band Sun. In 1983 he joined The Commodores, and was with the group for four years.
He also recorded with the group Chicago. Reynolds is best known as lead guitarist and vocalist with Earth, Wind, & Fire (EWF), remaining with them for 14 years.
Reynolds subsequently joined Experience Hendrix, the family company of Jimi Hendrix.
Other well-known artist with whom Reynolds has worked as writer and performer include Kirk Whalum, the Pointer Sisters, Stephanie Mills, and Paula Abdul. He was once married to Janie Hendrix, the adopted sister of Jimi Hendrix. Reynolds is accused of stealing an Acoustic Black Widow guitar by Jimi Hendrix.
