Career
Born in Conahy, County, Downey first excelled at hurling in his youth. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the minor team He made his senior debut in the 1946 championship.
He was an All-Ireland runner-up on two occasions.
His retirement came following "s defeat by Wexford in the 1954 championship.
