Shichidayu Kita

Background

Shichidayu Kita was born in 1586.

Career

Patronized, by Hideyoshi Toyotomi. He showed his gratitude by sid¬ing with him to defend the family castle during the battle of Osaka-jin (1614-1615). Later when defeat seemed near Shichidayu Kita sought sanctuary with the Kuroda family at Kyu-shu. Later Shogun Ieyasu Tokugawa took interest in him and gave him employment.

Achievements

• As a Noh player, he is said to be the origi¬nator of Kitaryu school, which he founded after breaking with the Komparuryu school. He was followed in succession by four Noh players who adopted his name of Shichidayu.
