Shigematsu served as engineer at Nihon Sharyo Kaisha (Nihon Rolling Stock Manufacturing Company) and Kisha Seizo Kaisha (Train Building Company).
Later he became professor of Yamanashi Higher Technical School and president of Fukui Kogoy Semmon Gakko (Fukui College of Technology). After that college was elevated to the status of a university and renamed Fukui University. Under the new educational system Kurahiko was appointed dean of Engineering Department in 1949 and then president.
