Graduated from Shipping Department of Osaka Higher Technical School (1918).
Served first with Shipbuilding Department of Mitsui Bussan Kaisha (Mitsui & Company) and later joined the newly established Mitsui Shipbuilding Company (1937). After successive promotions became director and chief of Personnel Department (1946) and senior managing director.
Held additional posts of president of Okayama Prefectural Employers' Association, director of Federation of Economic Organizations and manager of Tamano Shipyard of the same company (since 1947).
