Shigenaga Nishimura painted after the fashion of Masanobu Okumura. A sedate and adroit artist, he was good at portraing in Kabuki actors and beauties, as well as at painting flowers, birds, animals and landscapes. He originated ishizuri-e or wood-block prints. In black and white which look as if rubbed on stone patterns.
