He graduated from Hosei University.
Career
For a while served at the Japan Broadcasting Association before taking up a teaching position at his alma mater. Is director of the Ohara Institute of Social Problems. Has written several books including "Chisei-no-Haiboku" (Defeat of the Intellect), "The Philosophy of Dostoevski", "History of Social Thought". Has translated several works by foreign philosophers.
