Shigeo Miyata was born in 1900 in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, Japan.
After graduating from Keio University with a degree in medicine proceeded to Pasteur Institute, Paris, for further studies from 1927 to 1930.
Though a doctor by profession he was well known as a painter and essayist. Sometimes wrote for newspapers and broadcasts over the air. Was a director of Kokugakai Art Institute and adviser to the Churchill Society, a painting organization of professionals and amateurs.
