Shigeyoshi Tokugawa

Background

Shigeyoshi Tokugawa was born on March 17, 1745 in Japan. He was the second son of Tokugawa Ieshige, the ninth shōgun. His child-hood name was Manjiro (萬二郎).

Career

Shigeyoshi Tokugawa was granted a mansion (1758) within Shimizugate of Edo Castle. He is founder of the Shimizu family which is one of the three great Gosanke (relative) families of the Tokugawa line of Shoguns. His territory covered six provinces of Yamato (Nara Prefecture), Izumi (Osaka Prefecture), Harima (Hyogo Prefecture), Kai (Yamanashi Prefecture), Musashi (Saitama Prefecture) and Shimoosa (Chiba Prefecture) with a combined fief of 100,000 koku of rice. Was made Chunagon (Court secretary) (1792).
