Deura received a Doctor of Medicine degree in 1949 and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1956 from Keio University.
Deura began his career as an assistant of physiology department at Keio University School of Medicine in 1950. Three years later he took a position of an assistant of the department of physiology at Kobe Medical College. Then in 1955, Shigeyuki was appointed a lecturer at the same college.
Also he served as an assistant of anatomy department at Kyoto University from 1957 to 1963. In 1963, Deura became a lecturer and an assistant professor in 1964 at that university. In 1971, he held a position of a professor of anatomy department at Kawasaki Medical College (nowadays Kawasaki Medical School). Three years later Deura became a professor at Gifu University School of Medicine.
In 1990, he was appointed a professor at Fujita Health University School of Medicine. Since 1996 Shigeyuki has been a head of research staff at Kawamura Hospital.
Deura is a member of Japan Association of Anatomists, Japan Physiological Society, Japan Association of Physiological Sciences and International Brain Research Organisation.
On May 5, 1974 Shigeyuki Deura married Nobuko Shimonishi. They have a child.
