She served as composer-in-residence at Boston University"s Tanglewood Institute in 2000, 2001 and 2004, and as music advisor for the Formosa Chamber Music Society. Chen Shih-hui has been awarded a number of grants, and her work has been performed internationally. In 2010, Chen received a Fulbright Fellowship to study traditional Chinese Music, Nanguan (music), and music of the Taiwanese aboriginal people.
She is a former member of the composers" collective Musiqa and the Asian Composers" League.
