Takasuke held the Court ranks of Kebiishi-no-Bettd (Police Superintendent) and Dainagon (Vice-Minister) like his grandfather, Takaaki. After the Genko War (1331), he followed Emperor Godaigo in his flight to Mount Kasagi.
When the South Dynasty came into power in the Kemmu Era, Shijo was in charge of rewarding meritorious warriors and served as a judge at its law court. When Takauji Ashikaga revolted, his forces were overpowered by rebel forces and he fled to Kii Province (Wakayama Prefecture) and then served in the temporary Court of Emperor Godaigo.
In 1348, Shijo assisted Masashige Kusunoki in his battle against the Ashikaga forces at Kawachi Province (Hyogo Prefecture) but the South Dynasty forces were defeated. Takasuke then followed Emperor Gomurakami in his retreat to Ano, Yamato Province. The South Dynasty forces recovered Kyoto in 1352. On his way to Kyoto escorting the Emperor, he was attacked by Ashikaga forces at Otokoyama and was killed.
