Takatoshi was raised an army for the South Dynasty in Kii Province (Wakayama Prefecture) and entered Kyoto with Masashige Kusunoki, noted strategist of the South Dynasty Camp. Takauji Ashikaga and his son, Yoshiakira, then came westward to Kyoto with ex-Emperor Gokogon at the head of their forces. Takatoshi retreated to Kii because his forces were hopelessly outnumbered.
In December, 1359, Yoshiakira threatened to take the temporary Court of the South Dynasty on Mount Yoshino. Takatoshi's forces att kei fled to Yoshino and Takatoshi was killed while attacking Ujiharu. Takatoshi's forces attempted to defend Yoshino but in vain.
In 1367, Masanori Kusunoki left the South Dynasty Camp because of disagreement with the Court policy and surrendereel to the Ashikagas. He subsequently guided Ujiharu Hosokawa and Norisuke Akamatsu, warriors of the Ashikaga Camp, for attacks on the temporary Court at Ano of the South Dynasty. Takatoshi and Masatake Wada jointly defended the temporary Court against the attacks. In 1937, Emperor Chokei fled to Yoshino and Takatoshi was killed while attacking Ujiharu.
