Shiko Okamura turned to literature after he was disqualified for a soldier's career because of myopia. Joined the Chuo Shimbun (newspaper) (1901) and became its editor-in-chief. Became the Niroku Shimbun's drama critic (1903). Leaving the Niroku Shimbun (1909), he worked on the staff of the Yomiuri Shimbun and the Hakubunkan Publishing House. He joined the Ichimuraza Theater and participated in its management (1915). Meantime, he was managing editor of the Shin Engei, a theatrical magazine. He wrote plays including Wankyu Sueno Matsuyama and dance-plays including Boshibari and Migawari Zazen.
