Shin-emon Konoike was born in Japan.

Career

He is said to have started a brewery during the Keicho Era (1519-1615) at Konoike Village (Hyogo Prefecture). This business prospered, and the Konoike family dates back to him.

Achievements

• Though it is commonly recorded that Zen-emon Konoike was the first to discover methods to refine sake, it was he who really discovered the process according to documents which were filed with the Shogun's Commissioner at Osaka.
