Graduated from Military Academy (1913) and from Military Staff College.
Career
When World War II broke out, he became chief of Military Operations Section, Imperial Headquarters and took charge of all army operations. However, he was forced to leave the post due to differences with War Minister Gen. Tojo in connection with the Guadalcanal operations (December 1942).
He became Commanding General of the 18th Division (1943) and operated in Yunnan and became Chief of Staff of Japanese Expeditionary Army in Burma (1944) but was hospitalized (May 1945). Was an active member of National Defense Society.
