Shin'ichi Takahashi

Background

Shin'ichi Takahashi was born on January 15, 1913 in Tokyo, Japan.

Education

Studied at Gyosei Middle School and graduated from Japanese History Course of Literature Department of Keio University. While at university studied financial fluctuation during latter days of Tokugawa regime and later advanced into study of Yogaku (Western learning).

Career

Taught at Gyosei Middle School and Kinshu Girls Higher School. Wrote Yogakuron (Thesis in Yogaku) as one of "History of Japan" series (1939). Credited "History of the World Japan" with Tadashi Ishimoda, Shigeki Toyama and others, and coauthored "Tales of Japanese History, First Volume " with Kanji Katayama. Fine example of his buoyant style and light-hearted irony is seen in his collection of essays titled "Rambling of a Historian".

Membership

• After the war took part in activities of History Society and Democratic Historians Association, setting forth his own critical views of Education Ministry's textbooks and of civic courses in schools.
