In 1921 Hanayama graduated from Tokyo University.
Hanayama Shinsho served as professor of Toyo University and of the Kokugakuin University, specialized in study of Prince Shotoku-Taishi. He received the Imperial Award of the Imperial Academy in 1935 for his "Research on the Poems of Prince Shotoku-Taishi and on the Hokke Sutras». Also he was appointed assistant professor of Tokyo University in 1939. Then, received the Doctor of Literature degree. In 1946 he was appointed professor of the university. After the war, became a prison chaplain for the war criminals in the Sugamo Prison. He wrote the book "Discovery of Peace."
