Shinsui Usami was born on February 21, 1710 in Kazusa, Nagasaki, Japan.
Shinsui Usami studied under Sorai Ogyu for three years at Edo (now Tokyo). After the death of his master in 1728, he remained in Edo for six years studying with other disciples of Ogyu to develop their school of learning.
After finishing studying Usami Shinsui returned to his native province to teach Chinese classics. Here turned to Edo (now Tokyo) 10 years later for further studies and later became a tutor to Lord of Matsue (Shimane Prefecture) and was well treated.
