Shinzei was a disciple of Kukai and accompanied his master on trips to Kanto District.
Career
Shinzei became Dempo-Kancho Acharya at the age of 24. At the request of Kukai, he became the chief priest at the temple on Mount Takao (832). He was appointed chief priest of the Shingon-in Temple in the Imperial Palace (834).
Shinzei wrote a biography of Kukai and other books.
