Havens was a member of the editorial staff of Library Journal, where she served as managing, associate, and senior editor during a career that spanned thirty years. She was an executive editor at Library Journal when she retired in 1987. In addition to her editing duties, Havens also wrote articles and contributed reviews to such magazines as School Library Journal and Protestant Church Buildings and Equipment.
