Career
Was appointed professor at Toyo University. Specializing in modern Japanese history, he was known as a polemist, engaging in controversies with historians of the Marxist school. Studied the history of the Meiji Restoration. He was superintendent of the Kamakura Academy.
Politics
After the end of the Pacific War, he joined the Democratic Scientists' Society and became a Communist (1949).
