Sho-o Takeno was born in 1502 in Sakai, Osaka, Japan. His grandfather, Nakakiyo, settled at Sakai after the Onin-noran (Civil War, 1467-1477).

Sho-o Takeno was born in 1502 in Sakai, Osaka, Japan. His grandfather, Nakakiyo, settled at Sakai after the Onin-noran (Civil War, 1467-1477).
He studied the art of tea ceremony from Sogo Matsumoto, and the tenets of the Zen Sect and waka poetry from Kinyori Fujiwara, a Minister of Justice.
He was later appointed Lord of Inaba Province, but resigned the post to return to Sakai to teach tea ceremony.
