Shoichi Tsuji was born on December 20, 1895 in Gifu prefecture, Japan.
Shoichi Tsuji graduated from Tokyo University (1920). Studied under Matataro Matsumoto and others, also studied composition and conducting with Ryütarö Hirota, violin with Shin Kusakawa, and gagaku with Yoshiisa Oku.
Shoichi Tsuji became instructor and later professor of Rikkyo University (1923). Also teached at Tokyo University of Arts. He taught at St. Paul’s University. In 1968 he became a profesor, at Kunitachi Music College. Works include "Outline of Western Music," "History of Western Music" and "Life and Works of Schubert."
