Shoichiro Shiraishi was born in 1811. He was a son of Uhei.
Shoichiro Shiraishi engaged in land and sea transportation business for the daimyo. He was employed by the Shimazu family of the Satsuma Clan (Kagoshima Prefecture) (1861).
After 1858 the samurai who engaged in anti-Shogiinate activities stopped at his house when they crossed the Shimonoseki-Moji Straits. Shoichiro treated them well and provided them various needs until he became noted as a pro-Imperialist merchant. When the Kiheitai Band was organized by retainers of the Choshii Clan (Yamaguchi Prefecture), Shoichiro gave assistance (1863). The Lord of Choshii promoted him to the rank of samurai in recognition of his services. After the Meiji Restoration (1868) he lived in retirement.
