Shoku Tachibana became a priest at the age of 35 under the guidance of Jikei. He practiced meditation on Mount Kirishima in Hyuga Province (Miyazaki Prefecture) and then on Mount Seburi in Chikuzen Province (Fukuoka Prefecture). Then he built the Enkyoji Temple and lived there.
Emperor Kazan is said to have visited him incognito. Ex-Emperor En-yu asked him to visit the Palace but he declined.
Personality
A priest of lofty virtue, he had a great following.
