Shozan Takano

象山高野

Background

Shozan Takano was born in 1889 in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan.

Studied the art of lacquer under Shosai Shirayama and inherited his exquisite technique. Then went on to graduate from Tokyo Academy of Fine Arts.

Served as instructor at his alma mater for 14 years (1919-1933). Often acted as judge at the exhibitions sponsored by Ministry of Education.

His works were exhibited at the Imperial Art Exhibition for two years in succession (1932-1933).
